Engine rebuild

Engines are rebuilt when they have been damaged due to poorly seating pistons, or wear to engine bearings. These can be causes of either poor maintenance cycles or wear after thousands of miles of use.

During an engine rebuild the piston rings, bearings, gaskets, valve seals and many other components of the engine are inspected and replaced with new parts as needed. The cam shaft and crankshaft are reground and as needed the cylinder walls and reconditioned to form proper seals with the piston rings.

Some signs that you may need an engine rebuild include excess white smoke from the exhaust and excess oil consumption. More severe signs include metal shavings in the engine oil and knocking sounds from the engine bearings.

Timing Belt & Timing Chain service<

Timing belts degrade over time and could fail without warning if not replaced on time according to the manufacturer’s recommendations. Although a timing belt could be costly to replace as a preventive maintenance service, replacing a broken timing belt could incur up to double the cost or more if there is damage to other parts like pistons, water pump or valves.

Valve Drops

A dropped valve usually refers to a valve that has been broken at the stem. Driving a vehicle on a dropped valve even for a short period can destroy the inside of the cylinder and damage the cylinder head. Normally damage done by a dropped valve can’t be assessed until the heads are removed from the engine.

Head resurfacing and valve jobs

Head resurfacing and valve jobs is requires to restore flatness or surface finish. This helps in creating good seals with the gaskets. Resurfacing should be done within a recommended range based on the engine and/or a particular gasket otherwise you may find yourself with a leak or fail.

Oil change

Routine oil changes are part of your car’s maintenance. Due to the large number of moving parts in an engine you end up with lots of friction and heat. Oil helps lubricate the moving parts and absorb heat. As the oil breaks down over time it looses it’s effectiveness and needs to be replaced. Forgetting to get oil changes according to manufacturer specifications can cause damage to your engine and major engine problems.
